How do I know my Achilles tendon isn't ruptured?
Achilles tendon rupture is diagnosed clinically by the lack of available plantar flexion of the foot. If the calf is squeezed in a sited position, the foot should point downward. If this does not occur there is a chance that the tendon is ruptured. Advanced imaging modalities such as diagnostic ultrasound and MRI are used for a definitive diagnosis.
