My child has pain on the back of the heel, is that Achilles tendonitis?

This is a very common and often untreated condition in children. Achilles tendonitis may occur if the pain is at or above the insertion of the Achilles tendon on the posterior aspect of the child's heal.  If the pain is on the side of the heel bone or calcaneus, this may represent a condition called calcaneal apophysitis or more commonly known as Severs Disease.
