If you neglect to make foot care a routine part of your day, you can expect to have problems in the future. Here are 3 tips to keep your feet in great shape for 2013!
1. Good Skin & Nail Care. Keep your nails trimmed short without digging out the corners. Nails that are too short often lead to ingrown borders. If you have any health issues such as diabetes, circulation problems or just have difficulty cutting your nails, let your podiatrist take care of them. It is a good idea for everyone to inspect their feet everyday when putting their socks on in order to catch changes early. You should also take the time to dry between your toes well after bathing and apply a lotion to your feet (avoiding between the toes) to maintain healthy skin.
2. Shoe selection. The proper shoe can make all the difference. We have talked before about using the right shoe for the right activity. Even with in activities, such as running, there are different styles of running shoe to accommodate different foot type. It is a good idea to measure your feet anytime you go to purchase a new pair. Our feet change throughout our lives and different style fit differently so be sure your toes have plenty of room.
3. Don’t ignore foot pain. If the issue is acute, or comes on quickly, you may be able to identify the problem and correct or avoid it yourself.
