If you have been a long time follower of our Austin Foot and Ankle Specialists blog, you may remember one about ‘Magic’ shoes from several years back. We warned you to cautiously approach this miracle foot gear for daily activities and tried to inform you of what the true design of the shoe was. The legal settlement came as a result of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charges that the Skechers® company had made unfounded claims about their product. For those news buffs out there, you are right that this is old news. The $40 million dollar settlement was made last May but is in the news again because the refund payouts are being sent out to more than half a million people who filed claims. The FTC webpage for this latest news release has a phone number to call if you have any questions about the settlement.
Questions about your feet or the best shoes to wear should be directed to your Austin foot experts, podiatrists’ Drs. Thomajan & Shine. While marketers are constantly trying to repackage devices or supplements as the latest discovery in weight loss, there are few alternatives to healthy living through exercise and good nutrition. It is extremely unlikely that our nation would be facing the obesity and diabetic epidemic if we could all wear a special shoe or take pill to shed unwanted pounds. Living in Austin, we probably have access to some of the best food in the state. The food we eat, and the ability to make good choices, is only part of the equation. As we get older, many of us are not at active as we once were. The best way to getting active and staying active is to make it part of your daily routine. Fortunately, Austin weather is great for year round outdoor activities. Too often we abandon runs or activities and sports because of foot and ankle pain. Many pains and problems can be corrected by your Austin podiatrists. Make an appointment with our convenient online scheduling to see one of our foot doctors.
