Are hammertoes hereditary?

The predisposition to develop a hammertoe deformity is inherited.  Your environmental conditions that include your level of activity and shoe gear play a role in the development of the deformity.  Hammertoe deformities occur slowly over time and the treatment protocol for these can occur at any time.
