Does a bunion cause any other foot problems?
A bunion is a deformity in the joint of the first metatarsal and hallux (great toe). This joint is the major weightbearing joint of the foot. When this deformity becomes progressive the delicate balance of the foot changes and you may start to bare weight on parts of the foot that are not designed to bare this increased weight. The results of this imbalance may lead to conditions like hammertoes, plantar fasciitis, pain in the ball of the foot, neuroma and stress fracture.
