What is an orthotic?

An orthotic, otherwise known as an "arch support", is a device which positions and aligns the entire foot into its optimum position.  When an orthotic (arch support), is made correctly, the foot and the entire muscular and skeletal system functions more efficiently.  This is to say that, because of this realignment, the joints of the body glide and function more smoothly which decreases joint pain and problems due to excessive wear and tear over time.  Furthermore, this greater efficiency requires less energy expenditure because the muscles of the body do not have to work nearly as hard to function for any given activity.  This is why a properly made pair of orthotics will literally put spring in your step and allows you to be on your feet longer while not getting as tired or fatigued as you normally would have without having orthotics in your shoes.
